About Fr. Gastón

I am Father Gaston Mendiola, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luis Mendiola and Virginia Arroyo. I am the second of three brothers, originally from Veracruz, Mexico. I was baptized Catholic but raised as a Jehovah's Witness because my parents left the Church to be part of the aforementioned sect.

At the age of 14 I began to know the Catholic Church. After a time of formation I entered into full communion with the Church, receiving the holy sacrament of confirmation and the Eucharist, and at the same time I began to feel the call to a religious vocation.

At 16 years old I emigrated with my family to the north of Mexico, to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, where my working life began. Then I emigrated with my family to California where I was working until the day I returned to Mexico as a missionary to the community of the Missionaries of Hope in the Diocese of Mexicali in which I collaborated in the rehabilitation of people with addictions.

I entered the diocesan seminary of Mexicali where I stayed for only one year, later returning to California to pursue a working life. I was a member of Youth for Christ and I participated in evangelization in different parishes in our Diocese of Orange.

I returned to the Mexicali Seminary where I finished the sixth year of priestly formation until our Bishop Kevin Vann came to this diocese and opened the possibility for Hispanic seminarians to be part of this diocese.

I was received into this Diocese of Orange by our Bishop Kevin, who sent me to Mexico City to finish my studies at the Hispanic seminary of Santa Maria de Guadalupe to later return to Orange and be assigned as a resident seminarian to the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Habra, where I was also serving as Deacon until the day of my priestly ordination.

I was parochial vicar of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Huntington Beach for four years and two years as parochial vicar at La Purísima Parish in Orange.

Today I am very happy to return to this parish for which I have a special affection and which I hope to serve with much love.

Soy el Padre Gaston Mendiola, hijo de los señores Luis Mendiola y Virginia Arroyo; soy el Segundo de tres hermanos; originario de Veracruz México. Fui bautizado catolico pero formado como Testigo de Jehová debido a que mis padres abandonaron la Iglesia para ser parte de la secta antes mencionada.

A la edad de 14 años empecé a conocer la Iglesia católica. Después de un tiempo de formación pasé a la comunión plena con la Iglesia recibiendo el santo sacramento de la confirmación y la eucaristía, al mismo tiempo que empecé a sentir el llamado a la vocación religiosa.

A los 16 años emigré con mi familia al norte de México, a Cd Juárez Chihuahua donde dio inicio mi vida laboral; después emigre con mi familia a California donde estuve trabajando hasta el dia en que regrese a México como misionero a la comunidad de los misioneros de la Esperanza en la Diócesis de Mexicali en la cual colabore en la rehabilitación de personas con adicciones.

Entre al seminario diocesano de Mexicali donde estuve solo un año, para regresar después a California a seguir una vida laboral. Fui miembro de Jovenes Para Cristo; participé en la evangelización en diferentes parroquias de nuestra diócesis de Orange.

Regrese al Seminario de Mexicali en el cual termine el sexto año de formación sacerdotal hasta que nuestro obispo Kevin Vann vino a esta diócesis y abrió la posibilidad para que seminaristas hispanos pudieran ser parte de esta diócesis.



Fui recibido en esta Diócesis de Orange por nuestro obispo Kevin, el cual me envió a la Cd de México a concluir mis estudios en el seminario Hispano de Santa Maria de Guadalupe para regresar después a Orange y ser asignado como seminarista residente a la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en La Habra, donde también estuve sirviendo como Diácono hasta el dia de mi ordenación sacerdotal.

Fui vicario parroquial de la parroquia de San Vicente de Paul en Huntington Beach por cuatro años y dos años de vicario parroquial en la parroquia la Purísima en la Cd de Orange.

Hoy día estoy muy feliz de regresar a esta parroquia a la cual le tengo un especial cariño y a la que espero servir con mucho amor.
